Style

The style factor was reinforced by Renault with some clever marketing with the “Nicole…. Papa” adverts for the second generation of the Renault Clio in the mid 1990’s. The Clio is just as beautiful as the French actress in the adverts, Estelle Skornik , don’t ask how I know her name, I just do. So for the launch of the current Renault Clio in 2005 they had to continue on the same format, although with a more update theme. Enter Mr. Thierry Henry, French international and Arsenal striker, now currently with Barcelona, and the famous words “va-va-voom”. What Nicole did for Renault a few years earlier, Renault raised the bar with the coup of such a well known footballer and celebrity. The advert was so popular the Oxford dictionary actually lists the phrase va-va-voom, apparently meaning the quality of being exciting, vigorous or sexually active. Forget the last two, and you can certainly say the Renault Clio is exciting. Probably the best looking supermini on the market, with the options to upgrade areas of the car to enhance the look further, you will certainly hard pushed to find a more stylish car in its class.

Safety

Not many manufacturers can boast such a fantastic safety record as Renault. Just because you are driving a small car doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice any safety features. Euro NCAP is the motor industries independent organization who provides safety ratings for cars, and they awarded the Renault Clio the maximum 5 stars for adult occupancy. This isn’t unusual for Renault as the majority of their cars score highly in the same tests. It is reassuring that the car you are driving is going to give you the best possible protection should you be unfortunate enough to be in an accident. Also reassuring is that the key safety features are standard, not like some manufacturers who make you pay extra for the privilege? ABS with EBD and brake assist are standard on all Renault Clio’s. Drivers and front passenger airbags are standard on all Renault Clio’s. So if safety features are high up on your list of priorities when you are looking for your new car, then rest assured that the Clio has got it all, just concentrate on which model you want and then pick your colour, you needn’t worry about anything else.

Comfort/Economy

With 7 different levels of trim and of course the fantastic Renaultsport Clio, you have numerous options to choose your required level of comfort. Top of the range in the Initiale gives you the best of both worlds, all the comfort features like air conditioning, cruise control, leather seats, and all the sporty extras like 16” alloy wheels, sports wings and metallic paint. Or even the entry model Freeway offers power steering, electric windows and a height adjustable steering column which is impressive for a car that retails at only £7,515. Be careful though the Freeway is only available as a 3dr so if you require a 5dr car you will have to move up to the Extreme, Expression or Dynamique Renault Clio. Previously I mentioned how safety was one of Renault’s specialties, well they don’t stop there. When it comes to the environment they excel themselves yet again. Renault have a symbol, eco2, which is highlighted against their vehicles which meet three fundamental environmental criteria, manufactured at plants certified ISO14001, the vehicle has co2 emissions of 140g/km or less or is biofuel compatible, and the vehicles are 95% recoverable at end of the cars life, and at least 5% of the plastics used in their new cars are made from recycled materials. Renault are also actively looking to increase the amount of recycled plastics in their cars so remember to stick your plastic bottles in your recycling bin!
